Quand le soleil se couche sur le circuit de la Sarthe, Les 24 Heures du Mans se transforment.
La piste, habituellement caressée par la lumière du jour, devient une toile d’ombres et de phares où chaque brèche lumineuse sculpte la vitesse dans l’obscurité.

Chronique #2 - L'aube du Mans

L’aube au Mans n’arrive jamais brutalement. Elle glisse.
Après la densité de la nuit, une lumière fine, presque timide, vient découper les silhouettes. Le ciel passe du bleu profond au gris laiteux, puis s’embrase lentement de nuances dorées.
Sur la piste, les carrosseries marquées par les heures s’illuminent différemment. Les traces d’insectes, la poussière, les micro-impacts racontent enfin leur histoire.
La course ne ralentit pas, mais elle respire autrement.

Dawn at Le Mans never arrives abruptly. It drifts in.

Chronique #3 - Matières et machines

Dès les premières heures, la carrosserie cesse d’être un simple dessin aérodynamique.
La vitesse projette la gomme, la poussière, les débris invisibles qui viennent se fixer sur le vernis. Les impacts s’installent, minuscules au départ, puis plus francs à mesure que la nuit avance. Sous les phares et les projecteurs, la fibre de carbone absorbe la fatigue.
Les arêtes se marquent, les flancs se strient, les couleurs se patinent.
La chaleur des freins laisse des auréoles, l’air chargé de particules ternit les surfaces.
Tour après tour, la machine devient archive.

At Le Mans, matter changes with every lap.

Aux 24 Heures du Mans, la course ne se joue pas seulement sur l’asphalte.
Elle vit aussi dans les regards, les gestes et les silences de celles et ceux qui la rendent possible.
La course appartient aux pilotes.
Mais l’esprit du Mans appartient à tous ceux qui la font vivre.

Chronique #5 - Le silence du circuit

Aux 24 Heures du Mans, le bruit est une évidence : moteurs, stands en effervescence, public en liesse. Pourtant, entre deux accélérations, le circuit connaît aussi des instants de silence. Des moments suspendus où la course semble retenir son souffle.
Pour le photographe, ces instants sont précieux. Ils offrent l’occasion de saisir Le Mans autrement : non plus dans la vitesse et le tumulte, mais dans la pause, la matière et la lumière.
Car même lorsque les moteurs se taisent, le circuit continue de raconter quelque chose.

Au Mans, le circuit n’est jamais seulement un ruban d’asphalte. Il traverse un paysage, épouse une géographie, se glisse entre les pins, la lumière et les ombres. Virage après virage, il révèle un territoire.
Là, Le Mans cesse d’être seulement une piste : il devient un écrin de vitesse.
Car ici, plus qu’ailleurs peut-être, la course dialogue avec le décor. Et c’est dans cette rencontre entre la machine, la lumière et le paysage que le circuit du Mans devient territoire.

Chronique #7 - Le public du Mans

Au Mans, la course ne se joue pas seulement sur la piste. Elle se vit aussi dans les tribunes, le long des grillages, au bord des virages où les regards suivent chaque passage des voitures.
Depuis plus d’un siècle maintenant, des générations de spectateurs viennent ici partager la même attente, la même fascination pour la vitesse et l’endurance. Certains ne restent qu’un instant, d’autres passent la nuit entière, enveloppés dans une couverture, les yeux tournés vers les phares qui traversent l’obscurité.

Le Mans 2026 - Pesage

Le Pesage, officiellement appelé vérifications techniques et administratives, marque le véritable début de la semaine des 24 Heures du Mans. Organisé en plein cœur du centre-ville, place de la République, il offre au public une occasion unique d’approcher les voitures, les pilotes et les équipes avant leur entrée en piste. Les 05 et 06 juin 2026, les 62 concurrents engagés se soumettront aux contrôles de conformité et de sécurité indispensables à leur participation.

Scrutineering, officially known as the technical and administrative checks, marks the true beginning of the 24 Hours of Le Mans week. Held in the heart of the city at Place de la République, it gives fans a rare opportunity to get close to the cars, drivers and teams before they head to the circuit. On 05 and 06 June 2026, all 62 entries will undergo the mandatory inspections required to validate their participation.

Le samedi, une parade exceptionnelle de 19 voitures a même animé les rues mancelles, ajoutant une touche de magie et de ferveur populaire à ce prélude emblématique de la course.

Le Mans 2024 - Grandiose finale

Dimanche 16 Juin, 16h pile. La course a été rude, la météo capricieuse mais quelle sublime et palpitant finish! C'est donc la Ferrari 499P #50 de Molina / Nielsen / Fuoco qui remporte cette 92ème édition avec près de 311 tours de piste réalisés (dont 72 en tête). L'équipe Ferrari AF Corse soulève donc, pour une seconde fois (consécutive), le trophée : ne reste plus qu'à emporter l'édition 2025 afin de pouvoir l'emporter à Maranello. Tel est le prochain défi à relever pour la firme italienne.

La portion du circuit entre le virage de Mulsanne et celui d'Indianapolis est devenue un des secteurs les plus rapides. En prenant en compte un léger dévers de piste au niveau de la courbe du Golf et la magnifique forêt bordant ce secteur, les photos ne sont que plus belles.

Le Mans 2024 - Seconde chicane

La célèbre ligne droite des Hunaudières fait quasiment 6 kilomètres de long (distance entre le virage du Tertre Rouge et celui de Mulsanne). Celle-ci est coupée, depuis 1990, de deux chicanes qui ont eu au cours des précédentes éditions / sponsors, des dénominations différentes. Pour 2024, la seconde chicane (qui ne porte pas de nom particulier, contrairement à la première qui se nomme "Chicane Daytona") est un spot couru avec un subtile mix entre verdure et circuit.

The famous Hunaudières straight stretches nearly 6 kilometers in length, from Tertre Rouge to Mulsanne. Since 1990, it’s been interrupted by two chicanes, each with different names over the years. For 2024, the second chicane (which doesn’t have a specific name, unlike the first one, known as "Daytona Chicane") is off-limits to the public but is a favorite among photographers.

Le Mans 2023 - L'émotion de l'accomplissement

Dans une catégorie LMP2 (comme à chaque fois) extrêmement disputée, personne ne les donnait vainqueurs... Et pourtant ils l'ont fait! La petite équipe polonaise a réussi à accrocher un succès grandiose et mérité.

In an extremely competitive LMP2 category (as always), no one expected them to take the win... and yet, they did it! 
The small Polish team, Inter Europol Competition, pulled off a remarkable and well-deserved victory. Despite not being the favorites, their teamwork, strategy, and determination propelled them to the top, proving that anything is possible in endurance racing.

Dans une ambiance toujours aussi survoltée et bon enfant, les 186 pilotes de cette édition du centenaire ont assuré un spectacle de toute beauté. Le Mans 2021 - Porsche Art Car

La décoration de cette superbe Porsche vient du Gentleman Driver Indonésien Andrew Haryanto, rookie sur la piste Mancelle en cette année 2021.
Son idée est de représenter toutes les diversités présentes sur le globe par des petits canards en plastique et ainsi lutter contre toute forme de discrimination : telle est la livrée de cette Art Car! Les pilotes se sont d'ailleurs rebaptisés les UnderDucks.
Il s'agit d'un mix des mots anglais "Underdogs" (sportifs considérés comme ayant peu de chance de victoire) et "Ducks" (vous avez sans doute compris pourquoi).

The striking design of Porsche #18 was created by Indonesian Gentleman Driver Andrew Haryanto, a rookie on the famous Le Mans track in 2021. His concept was to represent the diversity found around the world through small plastic ducks, symbolizing the fight against all forms of discrimination. This unique Art Car livery was a statement of unity and inclusivity. The drivers, embracing the spirit of the design, even adopted the nickname “UnderDucks” – a playful mix of "Underdogs" (athletes considered to have little chance of victory) and "Ducks" (inspired by the iconic duck imagery). This colorful and meaningful livery became a standout of the race, spreading a powerful message of equality and inclusion.

Le Mans 2020 - Une édition bien particulière

Le COVID-19 a été impactant pour tout le monde que ce soit personnellement, professionnellement mais aussi sur le plan sportif car ces 24h n'ont pas été épargnées. La course a effectivement eu lieu mais à huis clos.

The 2020 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was a historic one, taking place behind closed doors due to the global pandemic. For the first time in the race’s history, there were no fans in the stands or around the track, creating a unique and somber atmosphere. Despite the absence of the usual crowd, the drivers, teams, and organizers pushed forward, making sure the race went ahead. The absence of spectators only highlighted the resilience of motorsport, and the event became a symbol of determination and passion, even in the toughest of times.

J'ai eu l'immense privilège d'avoir pu être présent au circuit malgré le huis clos. Voici les photos des protagonistes de cette édition qui restera une des plus "étranges" jamais courue.

Despite the 2020 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans being held behind closed doors, I had the immense privilege of being there, capturing every moment from the trackside. The absence of fans didn’t diminish the incredible energy of the event. Thanks to my access, I was able to photograph all the cars in action throughout the race. And now, all of these exclusive shots are available for viewing, offering a unique glimpse into the race that was unlike any other in Le Mans history.

Le Mans 2018 - Porsche GT : en force, en beauté et en famille

Porsche venait en force pour cette 86ème édition avec pas moins de 10 GT. Le principal objectif était d'accrocher une victoire en LMGTE PRO et ce fut chose faite avec la #92 qui portait une superbe robe "Pink Pig" en hommage à la 917 de 1971.

Porsche arrived in force for the 86th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, bringing no fewer than 10 GT cars to the track. The main goal was to secure a victory in the LMGTE PRO class, and they succeeded with the #92 car, which sported a stunning "Pink Pig" livery. This striking design paid homage to the iconic Porsche 917 from 1971. The combination of speed, heritage, and visual flair made Porsche's presence at Le Mans that year truly unforgettable.

Le Mans 2018 - BR Engineering : l'italienne vêtue d'une brillante robe bleue et venant de Russie

Superbe prototype non-hybride (en partenariat avec le constructeur de châssis Italien Dallara) venant de Russie avec des moyens financiers / techniques / humains importants mais clairement pas à la hauteur face à l'armada Nippone du Toyota Gazoo Racing.

The BR Engineering prototype, created in partnership with Italian chassis manufacturer Dallara, made a striking appearance at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans. This non-hybrid prototype from Russia was backed by substantial financial, technical, and human resources. Despite its impressive setup, it struggled to compete against the dominant force of Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Japanese armada. Nevertheless, the BR Engineering car’s debut at Le Mans showcased the ambition and drive of the Russian team on motorsport’s biggest stage.

Le Mans 2018 - BMW GT : le complément à la grande variété de châssis en GT

L'engagement de BMW amena à cette édition un peu de diversification en GT avec 6 châssis différents : Ferrari / Chevrolet / Ford / BMW / Porsche et Aston Martin. Quel Plaisir pour les yeux (et les oreilles!!!).
